No show this week except the Christmas one !

December 17th, 2007

Just to let everyone know that there won’t be a regular Three From Leith this week – work and Christmas events have overtaken me and I have to start getting on with the Christmas show since I want to get it out before the big day !

So – next stop will be your annual dose of festive fun and frivolity courtesy of TFL. Keep checking those feeds….

Show 117 – Surprise Packages

December 11th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

The past week has been a good week for coming home and finding packages behind the door, and I’m sharing some of the contents with you in the show. It was also an expensive week, as my ancient PC monitor died three days before the recording date for show 117, so a hasty replacement was ordered online for next day delivery. Hopefully that’s my run of three major breakdown / replacements over (fingers crossed), and now I can start this week’s run of three major talents… Before I do – remember that you only have a week left to get your Christmas messages or dedications in !

Show 116 – Wrapping It Up

December 4th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

The mad countdown to Christmas has started – and for once, I’ve almost completed my Christmas shopping with one big online session and one trip to the shops at Ocean Terminal on Sunday with Jasna. What a great feeling – no last-minute rushing for me this year ! Just two or three more bits’n’bobs to get and that’s it all wrapped up (if you’ll pardon the unintentional pun). Given how cold it’s been this last week, I’m stunned that some people aren’t wrapping themselves up warm yet and are still dressing as though it’s the middle of a sizzling summer. Utter madness ! Anyway, time to say DON’T FORGET YOUR CHRISTMAS MESSAGES (I’LL READ THEM OUT IF YOU JUST WANT TO EMAIL ME TEXT RATHER THAN AUDIO) before I wrap up my comments and present:

Show 115 – 2nd Century Men

November 27th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

It’s great to see another fellow podcaster reach the 100th show milestone, considering the number of podfade casualties littering the wayside these days. It’s especially good when that podcaster is a good friend who I met through podcasting – so congratulations to Gabor of the Electrical Language Podcast. His show is one of my enduring Monday-morning commute must-listens, as his taste is excellent and he never fails to impress me with the new bands he plays. He’s one of the reasons I manage to get through the start of the week, so in a way he’s indirectly responsible for me reaching Friday intact and recording TFL for you. A round of applause for him, then – and then you may sit back and enjoy:

Show 114 – Slow Bliss

November 20th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

There’s a real wintry fell in the air this week. Chilly, dark and the rain has been switched to ‘constant’ mode. Though that doesn’t necessarily mean that the welcome here on Three From Leith is any less warm, nor is the music any less than hot and crackling away with an enticing glow. Come in, gather round and enjoy this week’s healthy helpings.

Show 113 – Take It On The Chin

November 13th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Apologies for the enforced week off, but to make up for it there’s an amazing selection of tunes on offer this week from three cracking artists. As I write this, I’m just back from day one of being one of 15 (non-)angry men (and women); yes, third time lucky and I was selected to sit on a jury. Suddenly I feel grown up and responsible – just like this week’s music !!

Sorry – no show this week.

November 5th, 2007

I had to come home from work early on my usual recording day (Friday) with a completely seized-up and painful neck, so I wasn’t able to do anything more than sit stock-still on the sofa, dosed up on medication and applying heat to the area.

The rest of the weekend was spent taking it easy and recovering, so I didn’t get a chance to sit down and record at all.

I’ll be back bright and breezy next week; in the meantime, why not take a trawl through the archives and treat yourself to another ‘golden oldie’ moment ? Until then….

Show 112 – A Strum and a Waltz

October 30th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

British Summer Time has come to an end, and “the nights are fair drawin’ in”, so it’s back to cosy evenings in the kitchen with the radio and podcasting in the corner of a darkened room. This week’s music reflects the mood with some plucking, waltzing, strumming and poetry.

Show 111 – Kids and Games

October 23rd, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

An international feel to this week’s show, with an ex-Geordie Swede, a rock musician from Pakistan (a first for that country on TFL) and an utterly brilliant band from Edinburgh making their TFL debut. In addition, there’s some blether on the perils of playing your kids at Pokemon trading cards and a recommendation for a pretty unique new podcast which charmed and entertained me no end !

Show 110 – Politeness & Presidents

October 16th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Another week, another great selection. I’m heartened by the growing number of Scottish bands getting in touch, after a rather sparse period where only bands I’d played before were still submitting. Hearing ‘new blood’ in the music scene is always a thrill, and this week you can hear two, as well as a new track from an old favourite Bristol band. Savour the taste !
