Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

The legendary Mason memory struck again during the prep work for show 100, so this week’s show includes a belated request and an audio comment. Not only that, but the request kicked off a change to the proposed line up so this week there’s a lovely acoustic vibe in honour of Graham Holland and his own show.

Show 100 – What’s your pleasure ?

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

100 weeks of podcasting. 100 weeks of tracking down the best music from across the world. 100 weeks of recording and editing. 100 weeks of shownotes. 100 weeks of tipping off the bands that they’re on. 100 weeks of uploading the files to Libsyn. 100 weeks of watching audience figures rise and fall on Feedburner. 100 weeks of waffling. 100 weeks of the best fun I’ve ever had, the best music I’ve ever heard and the best audience of any podcast keeping me going and letting me know how much they enjoy and support the artists they’ve heard.

Thanks to each and every one of you for listening and staying with TFL. It makes every minute spent creating each show worthwhile. And the biggest thanks go to the artists – cheers all. Words cannot express what every note has meant to me.

[insert deity of your choice here] bless IODA Promonet – a fantastic resource for podcasters and artists alike. I tend to browse their site every week to see what I can find at random, and I never fail to uncover a gem or three or four. This week I just had to play another three artists that I found via IODA, so please enjoy this natty and eclectic selection. Until next time, get your requests for a track on show 100 sent to me by 5pm UK time on Friday 20th July !

Show 98 – Back In Trouble

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Received opinion seems to be that you, dear listeners, are happy with minimal shownotes, and would prefer that I spent my time on the music and blethering. Well, I’m only happy to oblige ! Unfortunately the chat is almost no-existent this week as I was suffering from excruciatingly painful sciatica at the time of recording and sitting at the PC was extremely uncomfortable. Nevertheless, get your requests in quickly for bands you’d like to hear again on show 100.

Show 97 – Sounds Familiar ?

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Does anyone actually read these shownotes ? I suspect that the majority get the podcast from the feed, listen to the show and then wait until next week for the next one. Hands up if you faithfully peruse them – or better still, leave me a comment saying “Aye !”. Writing them for the various forums, this site, iTunes, MySpace etc is eating up a large chunk of my time and I’m not sure if the detailed notes are adding any value; it may be time better spent on recording and finding new music. Anyhoo – on with the music ! This week there’s a pearl, an opal and a polar bear or two. Mystified ? Read on….

Howard Jones – Building Our Own Future
Ladies of a certain age will probably swoon at the thought of their teen heartthrob, Howard. A solo synth-pop pioneer, he formed part of the musical background to many a formative experience of many of our youthful years. He’s still going strong, still recording and touring – and on the strength of this track, he can still compose a damn fine and really catchy tune.

Opal Sky – The Blue Of You
The new single from Edinburgh’s venue-filling, audience-whipper-uppers, Opal Sky. Visit their new website for details of where to get this track, where to get their September double-A-side single and details of their upcoming tour (including dates in Germany).

Swedish Polar Bears – Norman Blake / Worship This
On my first listen to these Swedes on MySpace, I was convinced that Alastair “Dropkick” Taylor had formed another offshoot band and he was pretending to be Scandinavian. Nope ! This great band share similar influences (Teenage Fanclub in particular) to Dropkick and you’ll hear it in their sound. They even mention it in their lyrics, so listen closely !!
