Taking a week off

October 30th, 2011

I was on holiday on my normal recording day and, running out of time to put a show together by the time I sat down at the end of a busy evening, decided I would take a week off.

See you next week as we creep inexorably towards the the end of the year… 🙂

Show 247 – Returning North of the Border

October 25th, 2011

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Time to head north of the border for this show, featuring three new Scottish bands – one of which has featured before, but the other two are TFL virgins! As well as the great new music, there’s some great news. You’ll have to listen to find out what that is, of course…

The Stormy Seas – Morbid Desire

The Modests – Lucy’s Fur Coat / Don’t Hold Back

Dead Boy Robotics – Gatherer On The Threshold (Single Edit)

The soundbed was ‘Earth Alone’ by Michael Brook
Three From Leith theme-tune by Alex Aitken

Show 246 – Tech Magician

October 18th, 2011

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Well, the laptop is alive again and just to prove it, I’m writing the shownotes on it once more from the comfort of the settee on a Sunday night! It’s strange, all of this podcast timeshifting; recording on a Friday based on music selections I’ve received in the past, with a playlist I have roughly decided in advance, then shownoting it for a release date that’s in the future (as a write). So – enjoy the music of the future from your pal in the past. Oh, and are we all using personal jetpacks & eating dinners in pill form yet?

The Kush – Aniseed

Stone Antica – They’ll Strike You Out

Tone Puppets – India Kind (The Killaflaw Remix) / Ignore

The soundbed was ‘Solaris XL’ by Bryan El
Three From Leith theme-tune by Alex Aitken

Show 245 – Flakey

October 11th, 2011

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

You know those days when nothing works or goes right? Well, this recording was done on one of those. It was a struggle to start it, a struggle to get through it and a struggle to end it without something going amiss. Still, I managed somehow. The music’s great, even if the host is a bit on the flakey side this week…

Go Tell Apollo – Catch 22

This Is Lizzard – Won’t Give Up

The Easton Ellises – Ersatz / SexDrugsRockandRoll

The soundbed was ‘Phote’ by SFT
Three From Leith theme-tune by Alex Aitken

Show 244 – Prog-asm!

September 28th, 2011

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Well, a little late because my podcasting time has been used up in other ways (daughter time!), but here it is – a superb taste of Floydian & Genesis/Marillion-esque prog. That explains the extended running time, as you can see! Enjoy – I certainly did.

Airbag – All Rights Removed

Phideaux – Snowtorch (Part 1)

Airbag – The Bridge

The soundbed was ‘SadSequence_Part1-2(edited)’ by Fumitaka Anzai

Show 243 – A Short Week

September 20th, 2011

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Only a four-day week last week, and a four day week this week – then I’m off for a week on childcare duty. It almost feels like having a summer holiday, though I’m going nowhere! Still, there’ll be plenty of time to listen to lots of great music like this when I’m sitting at home.

Call The Doctor – Take It Out

Lachi – Bug Out

The Fuse – Lit Up / Phantom

The soundbed was ‘Ice Palace’ by Aeryal

Show 242 – Bringing It Back Down

September 13th, 2011

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Time to pull back a little and take it a bit easier with some less frantic, more acoustic music this week. It’s ironic really, as I’m typing these shownotes on a wild & windy night with gusts battering off the side of TFL Towers….

Good King Friday – Carousel

Nick Tann – 3am

Franco & The Dreadnought – Bulletproof / Last Man Standing

The soundbed was ‘Future’s Bright’ by Hungry Lucy
Three From Leith theme-tune by Alex Aitken

Show 241 – Scots Take Over

September 6th, 2011

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

It’s the end of the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe for another year; the acts have packed up and left, the Festival Fireworks have long fizzled out and the tourists are drifting away. Fear not, however – for the Scottish artists will play on long & loud on the Three From Leith podcast! Thus week there’s a treat as we have three for you.

Prince Edward Island – You Look Like I Need A Drink

Letters – Flash!Lights!

Cancel The Astronauts – Playing Hard To Get / Seven Vices

The soundbed was ‘Waukaringa (Unreleased Version)’ by All India Radio

Show 240 – Back From The Dead

August 30th, 2011

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Rising from the dead, amidst a flurry of new, independent music to revive even the most withered of souls, it’s the first new Three From Leith podcast in absolute YONKS. Hello again and thanks for standing by for my return, and apologies for the fact that my absence was extended due to an unexpected & severe hardware failure on the podcasting PC. Just think yourselves lucky you didn’t hear the language that spewed forth from my potty mouth during the two weeks it took me to fix it! Anyway, on with the show:

Electric River – Phony Radio

Anglia – Charming Liar

My Tiny Robots – Rock Bossa Nova Four Beat Black

Electric River – Monsters Ball

The soundbed was ‘Something Like Nostalgia’ by The Abbasi Brothers
