Show 174 – The Excitement’s Building !

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Well, the excitement of my upcoming holiday is building, and this week the show kicks off with a stomper of a rock track in recognition of the way I’m feeling ! I’ve been starting some initial packing after deciding on taking a very small case; most of the space is already taken by a box of goodies from home that my folks want me to take over ! But there’s nothing like home comforts for a Scots lass living in the land of the big Mac !! But before I get there, there’s a few more tracks to bring to you, so let’s get going.

One of the lovely things about podcasting is that you do, at times, get to meet with those far-flung listeners in the flesh if they happen to come to Edinburgh on holiday. And last Tuesday night, I went off to pick up Laurie from her hotel and take her down to Leith for few pints down by the water. The weather may have been lousy, but the pub fire was warm and the blethering was great. It was nice to put a face (and the rest of a person !) to the name, and to talk music and life. I’m looking forward to meeting many more of you over the coming years – so do let me know if you’re coming over !

Show 172 – Disorganisation Rules

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Disorganised… me ? Well, yes I was this week. However, I was saved by a couple of tracks that came up on shuffle on the iPod on the bus on Friday night; they gave me the basis for a great show, music-wise. As for the usual banter ? Well, there are some REALLY crummy jokes in there this week. You have been warned !

Show 171 – North X North East

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

The South By South-West Festival always sounds like such a fantastic event, and it’s something I’d like to get to one day if it’s still going by the time I can afford the trip ! Of course, given this week’s news I hope that we’re all still alive given the media hysteria over Swine Flu… So, since I didn’t get there I thought that this week I’d do the next best thing and play a few tracks from the 2009 opening night sampler along with the usual weekly tracks. So enjoy a little flavour of the Texas festival from the comfort of your own mp3 player.

Show 170 – When Birds Touch The Moon

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

It’s always really exciting when a band you really like bring out a new album after a long gap, especially when they’re an indie band and you have to buy the album from them in Canada. There’s that delicious thrill of anticipation as you wait for it to arrive, followed by the nervousness as you put it in the CD player for its first spin and hope it’s going to live up to expectations. Of course, there’s a HUGE blast of excitement when it proves to be an absolute stunner – which the new Papermoon album is. But there’s the same buzz when you hear ANY new music for the first time and it hits the spot – and that’s why I love podcasting and the many gems it brings to my ears every week.

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Turning it around again, here’s an eclectic selection after last week’s rockier dose of fun. Yes, it’s more of ths music I received when I was on my podcasting break – all great stuff and probably only a few months behind other shows who may have played it by now. Even if you’ve heard it before, remember that great music always rewards with repeated listening. This one’s for John – fellow cyclist / forumite / Twitterer & listener !

Show 167 – ‘A Rush Job’

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Never one to get things done in a hurry, I’ve ended up with a very last-minute show this week. The recording session was rushed because of a phone call just before I started it that resulted in a splendid birthday dinner at a local Thai restaurant. Normal service will be resumed next week, providing I get no further dinner invites which I just can’t turn down !!

Show 166 – Synthetic Beauty

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

I’ve been detecting a spot of bias recently. Not in me or in my opinions, you understand. No; I’m talking about my iPod. When the smug little box is on shuffle, it seems to favour electronica above all other genres of music. It’s exceedingly keen on Amethystium and the Autumn Interlude EP in particular. Very strange – perhaps electronic gadgets have a wee thing about music made by their electronic brothers and sisters ? After being subjected to more than my usual weekly dose of synthesised instruments, it’s small wonder that this weeks show ended up the way it did. It’s biased, you see.
