Show 183 – Been, Gone & Back

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Well, this podcast is brought to you by sheer luck! I was just editing the very last part of the last vocal when the software crashed and closed down. Normally, restarting it brings up the restore files, but this time there was nothing. Panic! I’d already decided that I wasn’t spending another 2hrs re-recording everything so the show was about to be canned for a week. However, I found the raw, unedited vocal files in the filesystem so I was able to re-assemble & re-edit the show. Phew! So enjoy the fruits of some very long, stressful labour.

No show this week – but do check this out !

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Apologies – due to a heavy cold last week I had no show preparation time before the recording day (Friday), so there’s no podcast this week.

But please enjoy this stunningly beautiful song & video from Edinburgh’s own Lindsay Sugden & The Storm in the meantime:

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

It’s a good job there’s a good deal of virtual distance between you and me right now – as I type I’m coming down with a stinking cold and feeling rather sorry for myself. But I’m going to listen to this week’s show again as I create the notes & I’m guaranteed to cheer myself up with the great music coming your way this week ! (And feel free to sponsor me for this year’s Pedal For Scotland, raising money for Maggie’s Cancer Centres. That’ll cheer me up even more !!)

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Time once again to give the podcast over to the often unsung heroes of TFL who usually provide the soundbed music and have me talking all over them. Well, it’s not happening this time as the musicians come to the fore in the instrumental show.

Show 179 – “8 Rock”

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Settle back for a longer show this week, featuring lashings of stomping rock, Britpop from Japan, and new wave from virgin TFL territory. Inspired by a pumped-up ride in the rain, I put together a 44-and-a-half minute on a whim, and it’s a goodie. Crank the amps up to 11 and let’s get going !

Big excitement all round in TFL Towers as always when there’s a new Phideaux album, especially when its genesis has been lovingly documented since mid-2008 on Phideaux’s MySpace page. It makes for fascinating reading. It also makes for fabulous listening as you’re about to find out….

Recorded in a swelteringly hot studio after the end of an energy-sapping week, I’m afraid that I was sometimes finding it hard to concentrate and string a coherent sentence together during this week’s show. Please forgive me ! The music, however, is fantastic – even if the host isn’t at his best 😉

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Well, that’s it all away as far as ever it was… however, we had a fabulous time in Houston ! We were superbly looked after by my sister & husband Ron, did lots of really great things and I loved spending time with my wee nephew who is THE cutest little lad ever. Destined to be one of the world’s greatest drummers too – he loves nothing better than picking up his own set of sticks and banging out a rhythm on everything and everything he comes across. Perhaps I’ll be playing him on the podcast in a couple of years 🙂

By the time this show goes up, I’ll be far away from Leith and resting in the Texan heat in Houston. So – a few extra tracks this week as I didn’t manage to find the time to fit in the recording of any extra shows to go out whilst I’m away. Enjoy the selection, and I’ll speak to you all again on my return !
