Phideaux – Microdeath Softstar
What can I say about this ? I’m running out of superlatives before I even start. Doomsday Afternoon is an album of true grandeur; it’s a pinnacle of prog – a blistering beacon of brilliance. My first though as the final notes of the album died away was “Wow !!” as I scrabbled to hit the button to replay it. This track is the ‘final freakout’ finale of the CD, where all of the themes are tossed in the air and chopped up into one stunning track. The CD will be available for sale on CDBaby etc very soon – rush out and buy it and start spreading the word. Tell them Three From Leith sent you..

Information – I believe in the past I’ve said Slow Dance Society rather than Slow Dancing Society. Drue says this is “no biggy” but I apologise nonetheless.
Drue tells me that two albums are in the pipeline. The albums are concept albums about Winter and Summer respectively. The first one, out in Autumn, will be a very cold sombre sounding album while the second, to follow in the Summer, will be something a little warmer in tone.
Thanks to Cam at Hidden Shoal for permission to play Slow Dancing Society on the podcast. After a number of weeks playing more of a rock / alt selection than anything else, I decided that it was time to slow it down a bit and get a little more laid back. It’s an opportune time too, as I’ve had a fair amount of just that type of music coming in to help me create the right vibe. The opening track from singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist and producer Robin Tymm’s new album, Whole Lies & Half-Truths. Robin exemplifies the true spirit of the independent artist by doing it all himself and trusting that listeners and fans will support him by buying enough to at least recoup his costs. I just read the sad news that Mark Hunter is ending the tartanpodcast and his Mellow Monday Show. Though it’s been obvious for a while that Mark’s heart wasn’t really in it any more and that he was no longer getting any creative fulfillment from his music podcasting, it still comes as a great shock.

The tartanpodcast was the very first podcast I ever subscribed to, and indeed was the reason I started podcasting myself. Mark provided invaluable help to me when I got started, and has always been there as a friend.

Here’s wishing him well and every success in his ongoing work as a Producer for tartanmedia productions and Talking Voices.  All the best Mark !

There seems to be a boom at this time of year with new albums being released in both the podsafe and mainstream arenas which are making demands on my wallet. It must be the ‘summer blockbuster’ effect spreading into other creative areas ! Not that I’m complaining – the more new music the better, especially in podsafe and independent circles. It’s surely a sign that there’s a growing market out there for the indies, helped – hopefully – by the music podcasters providing them with access to many new ears.

A second outing from this finest of scotophile French duos, with a rather tasty track from their debut album, “Today It’s A Wonderful Day”, which you’ll find to buy by clicking the link below. I pre-ordered it on the strength of ‘The Crash’, and I wasn’t disappointed.
