Show 28 – Napoleon… SWEET !!

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Listen here

Another week, another new selection of amazing music from Scotland and beyond. This week I’ve been accepted into AMP (the Association Of Music Podcasting) where I join some very esteemed company. Yay ! It’s only taken over 21 weeks to happen, but I’m thrilled anyway. Not only that, but I’m also this week’s ‘Good Podcast Of The Week’ on the Cruisin With Susan podcast, which you’ll hear all about. I’m even being recognised at gigs now…. I’ll have to give Michael Jackson a call and ask to borrow some of his disguises to wear !! I’ll try to get some pictures of the gig posted up soon.

This week’s stellar line-up is:

The Hussys – Napoleon Dynamite, We Expected
Two tracks from the band’s new Napoleon Dynamite EP, which you can buy here

Audiocat – History
A cracking little track from this Si and David and their guest artists, Novenka and Clevergirl.

Staccato Set – Teun
“Encompassing raunchy, down right dirty, blues with flashes of rock n roll, a tight punky rhythm section, obviously influenced by dance music grooves, fuzzy fender slide guitar, engaging narrative songs and captivating, soulful, Hawick-style vocals.” Great band who straddle a compendium of styles !

Show 27 – Rock-ous Return

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

Listen Here

Recorded last Friday after work, I was a little wired after a stressful and annoying day and this explains the slightly more exciteable me and the style of fantastic music that I picked for podcasting ! I was feeling in the mood for some rock, so digging through my playlist I came up with the great combination of:

Chris Gorman – Teargas
Chris’s MySpace
Email Chris via his MySpace page
CD launch gig ticket details here

The Acute – A Moment’s Brightness
Sex on a stick – The Acute’s MySpace is where you’ll end up if you go to their band URL
Email the guys via their MySpace page

The Rantings of Eva – Still Holding On
Rantings on MySpace
Email the band

Background music was courtesy of George Fletcher-Bourbon Renewal with ‘Rumble Groove’

Honourable mentions went out to:

Hugh Morrison’s Pure Brilliant Podcast
Finniston (upcoming gig at Caledonian Backpackers in Edinburgh)
Bukana (headlining said gig)
Jon and Rob at Top Of The Pods

The Gig-Goers

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Mark 'Brass Neck' Hunter !
I’ve already recorded Three From Leith Show 27, so I talked about going to the Amplifico gig on it. That means that by the time you hear it, I’ll have been. Confused ? I’m beginning to feel a bit queasy at all this time-shifting that podcasting allows – perhaps I should be the next Dr Who ? Anyway, a great night and I finally had the pleasure of meeting Mark from the tartanpodcast and his lovely wife Gail. I’ll talk more about it in TFL28 – and I’m sure Mark will do so in the next tartanpodcast too. Check both out if you want to hear how things went.

The picture above shows Mark just after putting on his legendary ‘brass neck’ !

Very business-like !

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

Rather than scrabble around to try to find a pen and paper at gigs to give people my podcast details, I’ve had some Three From Leith business cards made up. Rather nice they are too ! They’re actually double-sided with my postal address on the back, but for online privacy I’m only showing the front and I’ve blurred out my phone numbers.

A very nice job and a great service from Streetcards.

Show 26 – Santa to Saint Valentine

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

Listen here

Welcome to Show 26 from the heights of TFL Towers here in Leith, where Saint Valentine will be passing this lonely old singleton by this year… awwww !! (please, dry your eyes and put those hankies away now)

But do I care ? Not when I’ve got a show brimming with love, talent and musical genius I’m not ! Fun, enjoyment and not a nagging in sight – what more could a chap want ? Heavens above, there’s an exclusive new track from TFL favourites and showcase stars Santa Dog, a treat from show newbies The Deltasun, and a track for snuggling up to with your Valentine from the ever-magnificent Hungry Lucy.

Who says that I’m not good to you ?!

Santa Dog – Rosa
From their new ‘Belle De Jour’ EP – snap up your limited edition copy now. Familiarise yourself with the goodness that’ll be in store for you come April14th.
Email Rowena, Robbie, Martin and Jojo and let them know what you think.
Visit their MySpace page and add yourself as their friend

The Deltasun – Self Help
Anthemic, alternative rock from the boys from South London. Their website is being updated, but the old one’s still there if you wanted to check out some photos of the band.
Email Martin, Omar and Lee with your comments and feedback

Hungry Lucy – My Beloved
A smoochy number from War-N and Christa for getting up close and intimate with whoever you have over this Valentine’s day. Reminds me of the slow numbers at the end of discos when I was but a wee lad. Check out their podcast and their videos – a duo of diverse talents.
Email War-N and Christa with a quote from Little Britain and tell them if your date enjoyed the musical accompaniment as you played tonsil tennis !!
Be a friend to the Transatlantic tea-jennies on their MySpace page.

Three From Leith presents… poster

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

Not only is Rowena from Santa Dog a fabulous singer and musician, she’s also an incredibly talent artist. She’s designed the flyers / posters for the April 14th gig and I’m blown away…. I’m going to frame one as it’s truly a work of art.

If anyone would like to put up a few small posters around their places of work / local library / supermarket etc, give me a shout and I’ll send a few out when the printed ones arrive here at TFL Towers.

Show 25 – The Silver Show !

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

Listen Here

(Apologies if this appears as a repost – having a few teething troubles getting iTunes to register the new site feed)

I can’t believe that’s show 25 reached already ! It only seemed like yesterday (though listening back to show 1 I’m glad it wasn’t) since I took a mad turn on a day off from work and decided to see if I could knock a podcast together. And my aim for the show is working – I received an email this morning from a listener who’d just bought the CDs from all three of the artists featured on show 15. Owen, you’re a shining example of showing commitment to – and helping to support – independent artists. Thank you. And a huge thank you from me and from all the bands and artists who you’ve all supported over the last 25 shows and hopefully will continue supporting for many more shows to come.

Three From Leith Showcase Gig – yes, it’s coming on the 14th April ! Featuring Santa Dog from Bristol with Chocyamo and Opal Sky from Edinburgh. More details in the blog entry below.
