Show 166 – Synthetic Beauty

March 24th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

I’ve been detecting a spot of bias recently. Not in me or in my opinions, you understand. No; I’m talking about my iPod. When the smug little box is on shuffle, it seems to favour electronica above all other genres of music. It’s exceedingly keen on Amethystium and the Autumn Interlude EP in particular. Very strange – perhaps electronic gadgets have a wee thing about music made by their electronic brothers and sisters ? After being subjected to more than my usual weekly dose of synthesised instruments, it’s small wonder that this weeks show ended up the way it did. It’s biased, you see.

Show 165 – ‘Child-free and ISPs’

March 17th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

I’m not sure why, but recording on a completely different day from the usual one seemed to put me in a more rocky / proggy frame of mind. Neber mind Sleepy Sunday, more like Stompy Sunday. Good old indie rock, plus some strong progressive tinges just did it for me this week. Hope it does it for you – and yes, I really DID seek out and get permission from AG Silver once I found out how I’d been in contact with them before. Top guys, top music. Enjoy !

Show 164 – Return Of The Scots

March 10th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

It’s been a while, eh ? How’s things been when I’ve been away ? It really doesn’t seem like yesterday since I put out my last pre-break podcast, but a lot has happened in those two months. Firstly – there’s a stack of great new Scottish music to listen to, and secondly I waffle on about what’s been going on chez TFL Towers since we last got together. It’s good to be back though, so enjoy the return of Three From Leith !

Show 163 – 2008 Highlights (Part 2)

January 6th, 2009

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Happy New Year tae ye a’ ! Welcome to 2009 on Three From Leith, and part two of the 2008 Highlights: sparkling gems from July to December – as selected by yours truly. And this show marks the start of a TFL podcasting break; I’m taking a month or two off to recharge my batteries and take some time away from the PC / mic. Producing a weekly podcast is hard work, taking up time every day and then around 2 hrs each Friday and after over 3 years, I need a bit of a breather ! Don’t worry though, I’ll be back – keep your eyes on that feed 🙂

December 31st, 2008

To see out the auld year and bring in the new, it’s time to run through my favourite tracks from each month of 2008. I’ve decided to split the show up into two parts, meaning it’s more easily digestible in this season of overindulgence. Enjoy, and pop back next week for a second helping ! Oh, and Happy New Year when it comes !

The Christmas Show 2008

December 23rd, 2008

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

It’s that most wonderful time of the year once again…. yes, it’s the legendary Three From Leith Christmas Special 2008 ! Kicking off, like last year, with another rip-roaring version of Jingle Bells, you’re in for 45 minutes of top festive tuneage. Fast stuff, slow stuff, silly stuff, cheesy stuff, quality stuff – more stuffing than you could ram up a farmload of turkeys, in fact. Don your party hat, put down your glass of sherry and prepare to pull yourself another seasonal cracker !

Outspoken – ‘Punk Rock Bells’
Winzenried aka Hollywood Drunks – ‘We Three Kings’
The Hot Toddies – ‘Santa Baby’
Joey Murillo – ‘You Are My Christmas’
Jack Frost & The Christmas Band – ‘The First Noel’
Frisbee – ‘Christmas In My Pocket’
The Morrisons – ‘Sitting In A Trench’
Neil Murray – ‘Merry Merry Christmas’
The Hipcola – ‘Winter Wonderland’
The Moneyshot Cosmonauts – ‘Pink Christmas’
Gentleman Auction House – ‘On The Rooftop’
Mahalia Jackson – ‘Silent Night (46Bliss remix)’

The soundbed was ‘Bluegrass Jingle Bells’ by Carl Vasta
Three From Leith theme-tune by Alex Aitken

Three From Leith plugged in The Stage Online – the website for the entertainment industry !

December 17th, 2008

By the magic of Google Alerts, I just discovered that The Stage has very kindly given TFL a plug in its “Turn off the TV special: Pick of the podcasts” feature. I’m honoured – I’m mentioned in the same article as the BBC Friday Night Comedy podcasts, and Stephen Fry’s Podgrams.

Wow – I’ve got a warm glow all over now !

Show 161 – The Return Of Old Friends

December 16th, 2008

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

An unexpected invite out for coffee which then extended into a Chinese meal and an overnight stay at my parents, then an unexpected visit from the plumber and delayed Christmas shopping means that this week’s show was rather rushed. Not what I’d planned, but real life can sometimes take precedence over the unpaid weekly job !! Nonetheless, there’s some spanky new music from three old friends of TFL – even real life can’t spoil that.
