Show 121 – Dandruff Shakeout

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

An unashamedly rocky show this week – for no other reason other than the fact that I felt like it after stuffing my face with haggis. I show my poetic side with a recital of a famous Burns poem, and we hear that I’m even like in Canberra. So shocked was I that I forgot to even say thanks to the contributor, Dave Pearson from Artsound 92.7FM during the recording. Thanks, Dave !

Show 120 – Haggis and Neeps

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Well, this coming Friday is (as well as being payday / bonus day) Burns’ Night. So, in a vain and strained attempt to inject some relevance I’ve lined up the Scots and the Swedes. Sadly, there’s no such race as the tatties or potatoes, so we’re left with the Haggis and the Neeps. (For those who don’t know, we have swedes (aka turnips or ‘neeps’) as the traditional accompaniment to haggis, along with tatties). There’s also some nonsense talking, but that wasn’t Scots – no matter how much it may sound like it to non-natives ! And despite what I may say in the intro, this IS show 120, not 119 again… oops

Show 119 – ‘Leading Ladies’

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

The ladies. Where would we gents be without them ? (sitting recording podcasts on a Friday night instead of whispering sweet nothings in a lady’s ear, that’s where ! – Ed.) And to celebrate the fact, I’ve given over this week’s show to the leading ladies. Stunningly talented, whether on their own or fronting a band where they’re keeping the lads in check and out of the way, this is how Davina, Penny and Nikki sound. Pay attention !

Show 118 – New Beginnings

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Well, that’s another year gone that we’ll never see again. Shame, as it did produce some stunning new podsafe music that we all enjoyed. Never mind though, you should all have bought the albums by the artists you loved and be proud owners of a lovely, shiny CD collection to remind you of what you heard ! And now the whole process begins all over again, as 2008 brings fresh tracks, fresh artists, old favourites and the same old blethering from me…. so let’s get started with a bag of tunes which all feature the relevant word ‘new’ for the first TFL of the year.

And so we come to yet another Christmas here on Three From Leith, and Santa’s sack is bulging with festive musical goodies for everyone. There are happy songs, sad songs, songs about scampi and the customary rude Christmas song (I can’t let Christmas go by without a little seasonal smut now, can I ?). Settle down with your mince pies and mulled wine and enjoy:

Skid Row – Jingle Bells

Dropkick – Scampi For Christmas

Malcolm Middleton – We’re All Going To Die

Epic Hero – God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Dead Beat Club – Shopping Mall Santa

Show 117 – Surprise Packages

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

The past week has been a good week for coming home and finding packages behind the door, and I’m sharing some of the contents with you in the show. It was also an expensive week, as my ancient PC monitor died three days before the recording date for show 117, so a hasty replacement was ordered online for next day delivery. Hopefully that’s my run of three major breakdown / replacements over (fingers crossed), and now I can start this week’s run of three major talents… Before I do – remember that you only have a week left to get your Christmas messages or dedications in !

Show 116 – Wrapping It Up

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

The mad countdown to Christmas has started – and for once, I’ve almost completed my Christmas shopping with one big online session and one trip to the shops at Ocean Terminal on Sunday with Jasna. What a great feeling – no last-minute rushing for me this year ! Just two or three more bits’n’bobs to get and that’s it all wrapped up (if you’ll pardon the unintentional pun). Given how cold it’s been this last week, I’m stunned that some people aren’t wrapping themselves up warm yet and are still dressing as though it’s the middle of a sizzling summer. Utter madness ! Anyway, time to say DON’T FORGET YOUR CHRISTMAS MESSAGES (I’LL READ THEM OUT IF YOU JUST WANT TO EMAIL ME TEXT RATHER THAN AUDIO) before I wrap up my comments and present:

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

It’s great to see another fellow podcaster reach the 100th show milestone, considering the number of podfade casualties littering the wayside these days. It’s especially good when that podcaster is a good friend who I met through podcasting – so congratulations to Gabor of the Electrical Language Podcast. His show is one of my enduring Monday-morning commute must-listens, as his taste is excellent and he never fails to impress me with the new bands he plays. He’s one of the reasons I manage to get through the start of the week, so in a way he’s indirectly responsible for me reaching Friday intact and recording TFL for you. A round of applause for him, then – and then you may sit back and enjoy:

Show 114 – Slow Bliss

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

There’s a real wintry fell in the air this week. Chilly, dark and the rain has been switched to ‘constant’ mode. Show 113 – Take It On The Chin

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Apologies for the enforced week off, but to make up for it there’s an amazing selection of tunes on offer this week from three cracking artists. As I write this, I’m just back from day one of being one of 15 (non-)angry men (and women); yes, third time lucky and I was selected to sit on a jury. Suddenly I feel grown up and responsible – just like this week’s music !!
