TFL Fabulous Flashback – Show 40

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Enjoy a blast from the past whilst I get organised for next week – this is Show 40 from May 2006, which has a really fantastic get-up-and-go opener.

Speak to you all next week !

No new show this week

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Due to a series of unexpected events, my normal recording time for the show has come and gone this week without me being around or able to put anything together. Huge apologies – hopefully things will have settled down by the end of next week so I can get a show together.

So that you don’t feel too abandoned, I will probably put up a golden-oldie TFL show or, if I get a spare hour, I may quickly record a brief intro to three songs by a specific artist and put that up so you have something original.

Please bear with me – I have some great new music all piling up and ready to play and I aim to get the ball rolling again next week, unforeseen circumstances permitting. (Note to self – build up a small set of reserve shows for situations such as this in future !!)

Problems downloading shows

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

I just received an email from Libsyn (who host the show files) today; apparently they’ve had a major issue with an incorrect DNS entry being propagated across the web which meant that the web was unable to correctly resolve the URL libsyn.com to the Libsyn IP address. In layman’s terms, the web couldn’t find it’s way to Libysn, even though it was there.

Here’s a direct quote from their email about the issue (the grammar and spelling mistakes are theirs, not mine) :

There’s a few layers of caching that occurs to make the Internet work, it seems.

    • 1) source name servers- this is the ones we control. We can make changes and they are done instantly cause we control them
    • 2) global/regional name servers- this is where our registrar pushes out the information we tell them. These we don’t control and update slower then our source

    • 3) local/ISP name servers- this is where your home computer gets its info from. They are run by the internet service providers (like Comcast or Verizon for example). These we don’t control either and update at their own rate.
    • 4) home computer- finally, your computer keeps its own cache so it doesn’t have to hit your ISP’s name servers everytime you hit a website you visit often. We definitely can’t control these. We suggest a reboot of your computer to possibly kick-start your computer’s dns cache.

So, if you ARE having issues getting shows – don’t fret too much. You will be able to get them just as soon as everything in the chain above is refreshed. My apologies for any inconvenience that this may be causing you.

Show 103 – Holiday’s Over

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

Well, the holidays are over and it’s back to the dreary grind of being a code-monkey once again. Groan. Still, there’s more great podsafe music to cheer me up and there’s your feedback to encourage me to keep recording. Oh, and the thought that there’s an “I Love Leith” t-shirt soon to be on display around LA… that tickles me pink !

From Three From Leith to BBC Three

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

I just finished watching the latest episode of Heroes that I recorded on BBC Three last night. Afterwards, there was a promo trailer for some BBC Three shows, accompanied by some very familiar music… “You ! Me! Dancing!” by Los Campesinos, as featured on Show 99.

“Three”, as their old ad used to sing, “is a magic number”.

Summer Break !

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Since I’m on holiday, Three From Leith will also be taking a summer break.

The show will be back again on Tuesday 21st August .

Right, now where did I put my bucket and spade … ?

Show 102 – A Show Of Two Halves

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I’d love you to subscribe !

A contrast of styles this week; female electronica versus hirsute male rock (well, last time I saw them there were two members of the rock band with face-fur !). Why such a show of two halves ? No real reason other than the fact that I was in a particularly eclectic mindset when I sat down to record and the boys were already lined up because they’ve released a spiffingly good album. See what you think.
