April 2006

Here it is (I say ‘it’, as I haven’t decided on the thing’s sex yet, nor has it been christened – suggestions for a name welcome).

Sadly, it was blowing a gale so my little dream of going for an afternoon spin had to be shelved. Bloody Scottish weather !

I have an admission to make. A very sad admission. I am excited over a bike.

Yes, I’m getting the first bike I have ever owned as an adult and I’m thrilled. I haven’t felt this way since the Christmas Eve before I got my racer back in the early 80s. I yearn to move again at speed under my own power with the wind whistling past my ears as it did in the carefree, whole-life-ahead-of-me days of my youth.

I doubt I’ll get much sleep tonight the way I’m feeling.

Yet in reality I’ll most likely be wheezing, peching and straining to bring my 3 stone-overweight bulk back home along the road from Halfords and I’ll be walking for days afterwards like John Wayne after three weeks in the saddle with a bad case of piles .

Until then though, I can still luxuriate in the dream of how it might have been.

Goodnight all.

After a week or so of faffing about on and off with the blog setup , I think that should do for now and so (drumroll, please !) I now declare this blog officially open.

And as it’s way past bedtime and I’ve got work tomorrow, I’m getting out of here.

Make yourselves at home and I’ll catch you all later. G’night.
